As well as trying to find a new left-back, which is where Emerson Palmieri comes in, Antonio Conte wants a new midfielder.

The ideal scenario for the club would be a young Italian, hence their big interest in Sandro Tonali, currently at Brescia.

However, the manager would prefer a different kind of player, such as either Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombélé or the ‘perfect’ N’Golo Kanté at Chelsea.

There was a brief moment where it felt the former Leicester City man would be attainable, but as the days and weeks have gone by, his price tag and continued importance at Stamford Bridge makes him the most difficult of the two.

That’s why Gazzetta dello Sport claim ‘it would be easier’ to get Ndombélé from Tottenham for two reasons.

The first is ‘because the Frenchman hasn’t convinced in London’ and the second is ‘by virtue of José Mourinho’s declared interest in Milan Škriniar’.

Gazzetta then add that ‘if Mou knocked on Inter’s door to test the willingness to sell’ the defender, Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio ‘could sit at the table considering the possibility of an exchange with Ndombélé’.
