Following Giovani Lo Celso’s loan spell at Villarreal last season, the Spanish media continues to be convinced the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder would like to remain at the La Liga side for another year.

The problem, as reported by Estádio Deportivo today, is that despite his green light for a return to the Yellow Submarine, he continues ‘waiting’ for the clubs to find a deal.

The outlet claims that with the World Cup approaching, a spell at Villarreal seems to be ‘the most suitable place’ for Lo Celso, as he could show his best version and guarantee a place in the Argentine squad.

The club’s problems are said to be their ‘salary limit’ and convincing Tottenham, even though Spurs ‘do not count on him’ for next season. That’s why there’s been an impasse for weeks.

Estádio Deportivo even claims there’d be some competition for the signing, with Fiorentina also interested in the player. Still, it’s claimed he let them know his priority is to rejoin Villarreal, and he’s ‘beginning to despair’ as an agreement isn’t reached.

Recent reports from Spain made it clear the La Liga side have no way to buy the player from Tottenham, who initially demanded €30m for the sale.

So perhaps the only way out for his case would be a new loan.
