Following Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 loss to AC Milan in the first leg of the Champions League’s round-of-16, defender Cristian Romero gave a few words to the Argentine media.

The 24-year-old not only regretted the defeat to the Rossoneri, but claimed Spurs are going through a difficult phase in general, saying they’re just not managing to play well. And when they do, that doesn’t last long.

“Unfortunately, we are at a time when we cannot find solidity as a team. We have to rediscover ourselves. We have a great team, but we are missing some things,” said Cristian Romero (via Olé).

“Lately we have had quite a few ups and downs. We had a game against City that seemed like we were fighting for the Premier League and against Leicester we had a defeat that went down very badly. We have to improve in all aspects.”

Cristian Romero also talked about the absence of important players in this game. And regarding his own fitness, he insists he’s in good shape.

“Today the absences of Rodri and Pierre were felt, they are two important players for us. They are two players who always play with the heart.

“Personally, fine. Beyond the defeat I feel good, physically good. I’m in a good moment and I’m happy where I am.”

It won’t be an impossible challenge for Tottenham to get qualification in the second leg, and that’s why Romero still sounds hopeful that Antonio Conte’s side will manage to find a good result in England.

“We still have one game left, we decide it at home and everything is open.”

Tottenham and Milan play the second leg in London on the 8th of March. Before then, Spurs have Premier League clashes against West Ham United, Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers, besides an FA Cup tie against Sheffield United. So there’ll be a lot on Antonio Conte’s mind until they can focus on the Rossoneri again.
