For as long as we can recall, Tottenham have been interested in signing Nicolo Zaniolo, without every getting the deal over the line.

They tried again last January, but their offer of a loan with an option to buy was turned down by AS Roma, leading to the player to go to Galatasaray instead.

This didn’t end Tottenham’s interest in him, however, as Nevzat Dindar, Milliyet’s Galatasaray correspondent, explained on Monday.

Speaking about the Italian’s situation, he made it clear from the off that ‘Zaniolo is gone’, meaning he will leave the Turkish club this summer.

Looking back at the second half of the season, he explains that until the game against Fenerbahçe, when he scored two goals in a 3-0 win, many were wondering if he was worth the money.

Now, however, they would like to keep him, but know that will be very difficult, with big clubs such as Tottenham lurking.

He said: “Zaniolo is evolving into a world star. English club are asking €30-35m for Zaniolo. Galatasaray are not taking Juventus’ offers seriously at this point. Tottenham are the closest club to sign Zaniolo.”

After his arrival, the 23-year-old scored five goals in 10 league games for Galatasaray.
