Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura, with Spurs interest dating back to Ange Postecoglou’s time at Celtic, according to reports from Germany.

It’s Sky Deutschland who reports the race for the player today, claiming that ‘a move to the island is possible’.

Liverpool and Tottenham have ‘put out feelers’ for Itakura, who was signed by Borussia Monchengladbach from Manchester City for just €5m back in 2022.

Sky claims that the defender can be signed next summer for €15m, due to a release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga side. That may not be valid for this month, though.

Tottenham’s interest in the player seems to be a specific wish from Ange Postecoglou, with the outlet claiming that the manager wanted the player signed during his time at Celtic.

The manager was at Celtic Park from June 2021 until June 2023, and after failing to get Ko Itakura to Celtic then he probably has a better chance now.

Regarding Liverpool, the story claims that Jurgen Klopp ‘has his eye’ on the 26-year-old.

Itakura belonged to Manchester City for three years and never played for them, and that’s why a return to the Premier League is seen as a way for him to finally prove himself in English football.
