Former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has turned down Tottenham for now as he waits to see what happens at Real Madrid this summer.
That’s according to AS, who say he has rejected an approach from Tottenham for the time being as he waits to discover what will happen with Zinedine Zidane.
The newspaper explain that coaches all around Europe are positioning themselves for the Real Madrid job, which could be up for grabs this summer.
Zidane has spent the last few weeks sending very cryptic messages about his future, and several reports in Spain have indicated he will be leaving the club in the near future.
Real Madrid are moving to be ready should that happen, and there are two names on their shortlist for the job, Allegri and club legend Raul.
The Castilla coach is well-liked by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who respects the job he has done with the club’s reserve team this season.
There is, however, a sense that the job could be coming too soon for him, and so a more established option like Allegri would be the alternative.
The Italian coach is aware of this and so has ordered his representatives to ‘appease the interest’ of those who have already came calling.
Tottenham are one of those and ‘knocked on his door’ to convey their interest in him becoming their next manager following Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month.
Levy is a big fan of the former Juventus manager, indeed he ‘likes him a lot’, as he wants someone with experience to lead the team from next season.
Allegri, though, has made it clear to Tottenham that he ‘wants time to think’, which is actually code for he wants time to see what happens on the Real Madrid bench first.
It’s not the first time he’s been linked with the big job at the Bernabeu and even turned it down in 2018, but now he seems ready to accept if it’s offered, much to Tottenham’s dismay.
