If you’ve been following us over the past few months, you know that we’ve been trying to stay on top of all things Adrien Rabiot since Tottenham are said to be interested.

On Tuesday, Paris United explained Spurs were one of two sides (the other being Barcelona) wanting him in January, but Daniel Levy was refusing to meet the player’s demands, which stood at €10m/year plus a €10m signing on fee.

While the Tottenham chairman was prepared to pay him the one time sum, the wage was a problem, meaning the Premier League club would need to find some other way to convince him.

However, it seems getting him to move abroad won’t be the problem, as former Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Fournier explained when speaking to Canal Supporters.

He said: “I think it’s a shame [he’s leaving], because he’s an exceptional player who is capable of opening a game. His entourage is why it’s complicated. The World Cup hurt him. He wants to go abroad, I think it might be better for him to try and free himself, but I don’t doubt his ability. He’s very performant and very good.”

The 23-year-old has had a bit of a strange season under Thomas Tuchel, finding himself in and out of the first-team, with some behavioural issues being highlighted.

Left out of some important games, the France international hasn’t appreciated some of his manager’s decisions, which ultimately led to this contract standoff.

Tottenham should be able to buy him in January if the money is right, but the likeliest outcome, if Barcelona don’t get there first, is that he’d join on a free come June when his deal with Paris Saint-Germain runs out.

As things stand, it doesn’t look like he’ll renew.
