Earlier on Wednesday, we relayed news from France that Lille could end up rivalling Saint-Etienne for Tottenham’s Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

The French winger is out of favour at Wembley under Mauricio Pochettino, and while he has been given the opportunity to go to Mainz in Germany, a return to France appears to be his priority.

With just over a week left in the French transfer window, there’s still time for clubs to make the offer he’s waiting for, and Saint-Etienne have him as their top priority.

This is what Yahoo! Sport journalist Manu Lonjon explained on his Periscope Q&A on Tuesday evening, but before the Ligue 1 side can make a move, they’ll need to get rid of some players.

Having already signed the likes of Remy Cabella and Wahbi Khazri this summer, as well as giving Yann M’Vila a long-term contract, Saint-Etienne are trying to get some players off their wage bill, including left-back Cheikh M’Bengue.

If they can do that in the next few days, then they’ll fully turn their attention to the Tottenham man, who needs a club where he can rekindle his dwindling career.

The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan from Spurs at Burnley, but failed to convince Sean Dyche enough to give him regular game time.
