Everton have been regularly scouting Lecce to watch midfielder Joan Gonzalez this season but have been joined in doing so by Tottenham.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Premier League duo ‘often’ send scouts to Italy to watch the 20-year-old.

They explain that Gonzalez has been a key player for Lecce this season, with the Italian side playing attractive football and beating the likes of Atalanta and Lazio at home to much praise.

They’ve been helped in their progress this season by the performances of the midfielder, who arrived on a free from Barcelona in July and has left the Spanish side ‘eating their hands’ ever since because he has impressed so much.

The youngster appears to have everything, with a ‘remarkable physical structure’ paired with the technical qualities to plays as both a ‘director and a trequartista’.

His growth this season ‘has not gone unnoticed’ abroad and alongside Borussia Dortmund, Everton and Tottenham are ‘often visiting’ Via del Mare with their scouts to watch him play.

Gonzalez is liked inside Italy too, with AC Milan following him insistently in recent weeks and seemingly prepared to try and get him ahead of the competition.

It’s not the first time Everton or Tottenham have been linked as we covered a report last month that stated both clubs and West Ham had ‘moved their scouts’ on the youngster.

It seems that is not changing, although they now may need to make their move, with Gonzalez valued at around €10m but only likely to get more expensive in the coming months.
