After defeat in the Champions League final last season, Tottenham headed into this transfer window looking to overhaul the squad and move some of the old guard on.
One of those was Danny Rose, the left-back having made it clear he would like a new challenge in recent months and would be open to a move.
Spurs were happy to let him go if he could find somewhere to go, but that never transpired as he struggled to get himself a move and ended up staying at White Hart Lane, even starting in the opening day win over Aston Villa.
Still, it appears Tottenham were looking at replacements should Rose have departed as L’Equipe report that Paris Saint Germain’s Layvin Kurzawa was a player they were interested in.
The Ligue 1 champions valued Kurzawa at €15m, and there were interested parties, Tottenham among them. L’Equipe say Spurs enquired about the situation regarding the full-back, but these did not lead to negotiations.
And that’s probably because of Rose’s failure to move on. Had the England left-back found a club and moved before deadline day, Spurs would likely have made their move for Kurzawa.
He’d have been a ready-made replacement for Rose and at €15m a relative snip in the current market. However Rose didn’t depart, so no replacement was needed, leaving Kurzawa in Paris for the foreseeable future.
