Towards the end of July, Ekstra Bladet reported Liverpool were one of the clubs to have made contact to sign Jesper Lindstrøm.

The 23-year-old was also linked with a few other clubs like Newcastle United and Juventus, and it was reported these two sides were keen on signing him. Eventually, he left Eintracht Frankfurt for Napoli towards the end of the last window.

Lindstrøm has had a chat with Tipsbladet about his move to the Naples club and he explained the reason for rejecting Liverpool in favour of the Serie A winners.

“There was Liverpool, but would I get playing time? Would it be smart to go to Liverpool? I’m a Liverpool fan,” he said.

“So, it could also be an insanely cool experience. But if I’m not playing, I might as well sit and watch them on TV for another club. I’m at an age now where I have to play some football.”

The Denmark international primarily operates as an attacking midfielder and can also be used on both wings. Jürgen Klopp has the these positions well covered at Liverpool with the likes of summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Díaz and Harvey Elliott.

Rudi Garcia’s side have assured the versatile player that he will get game time and this will have made it easier for him to pick them over the Reds.

“That’s why I think Napoli is a good move. It’s a top club in the world and they have said that I’ll play and I’ll get a lot of chances,” Lindstrøm explained.

The Dane made his Napoli debut in their 2-1 defeat to Lazio at the weekend.
