Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot are currently the two recognised right-backs at Erik ten Hag’s disposal at Manchester United.

The Portugal international has been the first-choice, with Wan-Bissaka providing cover to Dalot this season.

Despite these two options on the right side of defence, Manchester United are credited with an interest in Santiago Arias, who is still without a club after leaving Atlético Madrid.

The Colombia international’s possibility to join the Red Devils as a free agent is discussed in his country by El Espectador.

As it stands, the 30-year-old’s future is still unknown, but ‘there could still be hope’ since Erik ten Hag’s side have been asking about him. The coach knows the ex-PSV Eindhoven man from his time at Ajax.

Arias suffered a serious injury in October 2020 and hasn’t recovered his best version since then. He underwent surgery twice, with the last one taking place in May 2021.

Even though El Espectador suggest there is hope for the player at the start of the report, towards the end, they question whether it is viable for Manchester United to sign him, even as a free agent.

They state: ‘Although the rumours that he is approaching Manchester sound strong, it is unlikely to be given knowing the competition that exists in the position. The players vying for the right flank of the Red Devils, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, are players of similar characteristics and good level. In addition, it is unusual for a team to have three international-class right-backs.

‘For now, Arias is in the process of recovering his level. The defender hopes that injuries are a thing of the past and aspires to continue to stand out in European football.’
