Amadou Onana arrived at Everton from Lille in August and has quickly established himself at Goodison Park.

After making two appearances from the bench, the midfielder has started the last five league games for the Toffees.

The Everton summer signing also managed to impress for Belgium during the last international break.

Having made his debut for De Rode Duivels in June, Roberto Martínez handed the 21-year-old his first start for the national team in their 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League last week.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Frank Lampard’s man is likely to be part of the Belgium squad for the Qatar World Cup.

Over the past two years, Onana has represented Hamburg, Lille and Everton at club level, and then Belgium on the international stage. Martínez has detailed why he is delighted to have a player of Onana’s calibre available for selection.

“We tried it before with Orel Mangala and Sambi Lokonga. Now Onana got his chance. He has adapted very well. Amadou is now playing in the Premier League, which will only make him stronger,” Martínez said, as quoted by HLN.

“He has physical qualities that we haven’t seen since Fellaini. He is also a leader. Despite his age – he is only 20 [21] – he already has a lot of experience. Amadou has already played in three top European competitions: the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and now the Premier League. That’s special. He’s a very useful player.”
