Manchester United could take advantage of Milan Škriniar’s contract situation to sign him in the winter market, according to a claim from Italy.

Paris Saint-Germain were keen on signing the defender in the last window but failed to find an agreement with Inter Milan. His deal with the latter runs down in 2023 and he’s not agreed to sign an extension so far.

InterLive.it state Manchester United need a player like the 27-year-old.

Without a new deal at the San Siro, the Slovakia international will leave the Nerazzurri as a free agent after the end of this season. He can be a market opportunity for several top clubs, including PSG.

The centre-back could be ‘tempted’ by Manchester United. It’s further said the Red Devils could ‘make a desperate attempt’ to bring him to Old Trafford ‘as early as January’, in order to beat competition for his signature next summer.

This may also lead to a possible swap deal with the Serie A side, involving Donny van de Beek or Anthony Martial in exchange for Škriniar. InterLive.it explain that this proposal will ‘undoubtedly meet with Inter’s rejection’.

Raphaël Varane and Lisandro Martínez are the first-choice centre-backs for Erik ten Hag, with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf providing cover. Unless one of the latter two were to leave United in January, it wouldn’t make sense for them to sign Škriniar.
