On New Year’s Day, covering a Manolo Gabbiadini rumour, we stated that there’s likely to be a fresh story from Italy every day of the month about the Southampton striker… unless he leaves the Saints before then.
In truth, judging by January 2nd, the number of stories each day may reach double figures.
AC Milan are the latest club being linked but, once again, as soon the rumours hit the reality of Southampton’s probable demands, things wobble.
On Wednesday evening, Calciomercato report what they say is the latest.
Gabbiadini is said to still be an ‘idea’ for Milan, and his agent Silvio Pagliari has spoken to Leonardo, who works in the club’s football direction.
That was ‘just a chat’, and there’s nothing concrete right now, because Milan, battling FFP issues, are concerned about the cost of a potential deal.
Southampton are said to be against a loan and want ‘at least’ €12m, so Pagliari has travelled to England to try and ‘soften’ the club’s stance. Calciomercato mentions a potential deferred payment could suit Milan.
