A Spor claim Fenerbahce sporting director Damien Comolli is targeting Liverpool defender Joel Matip ahead of the next transfer window.

It’s reported the Turkish club are pursuing a loan deal for the Cameroonian and that talks with Liverpool have already commenced.

Fenerbahce only have two recognised central defenders in Roman Neustadter and Martin Skrtel, with Erwin Koeman also using Diego Reyes as cover.

Matip has played just six games, mostly as a substitute, for Liverpool this season, and only has 94 Premier League minutes. With the emergence of Joe Gomez as a central defender this has resulted in the player dropping down the pecking order.

It’s also claimed Matip is wanted by Fulham as they look to bolster their defensive options in the new year. The London club have made a poor start to the season which has ultimately cost Slavisa Jokanovic in the past 24 hours. It now remains to be seen whether new Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri will target the Liverpool man.

Matip joined Liverpool from Schalke on a free transfer in 2016 and is under contract with the Merseyside club until June 2020.
