Armel Bella-Kotchap has enjoyed a good start to his life in the Premier League since he swapped VfL Bochum for Southampton in the last window.

He’s made six starts in the league for the Saints and registered an assist in his side’s 2-1 win over Leicester City. The centre-back’s fine displays have seen him already get linked with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

The Southampton player has also been rewarded with a first call-up from Germany for the ongoing international break. The 20-year-old has discussed his joy over receiving a call from Die Mannschaft manager, Hansi Flick.

“I didn’t know the number. I was very surprised, but also very happy,” the defender said, as quoted by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The highly rated defender also revealed that he wants to take advantage of training with high quality players in the Germany camp.

“I’m the youngest here and I still have a lot to learn. I can learn a lot here. I play here with players who play at a very high level,” he added.

Transfermarkt.de have also relayed Bella-Kotchap’s quotes, admitting that he is delighted to play under Ralph Hasenhüttl at St Mary’s Stadium and stressed that the plan showed by Southampton is vital for his progress.

“The club showed me a very good plan and I have the opportunity to work on my weaknesses every day. The coach trusts me, the relationship between us is very good and I hope it will continue like this,” he explained.
