A week ago, we covered an article from A Spor in Turkey, who claimed Besiktas were already regretting the loan of Jeremain Lens, and considering trying to find a way to send the Dutch winger back to Sunderland in January.

Enjoying himself with Fenerbahce last season, the Black Cats’ loanee has struggled for the vast majority of the current campaign, and had scored only one goal in eight appearances.

However, that changed on Tuesday when Besiktas played Grandmedical Manisaspor in the Türkiye Kupasi and thumped them 9-0.

Playing the full 90 minutes, the Sunderland forward scored a hat-trick and also picked up three assists, setting up former Middlesbrough flop Alvaro Negredo for all but one of his four goals.

With an important game against Galatasaray coming up in the Süper Lig, this could be the performance that allows Jeremain Lens to kickstart his season, and avoid a return to Sunderland, which he’s made clear in the past is a club he isn’t particularly fond of.
