After a terrible start to his Besiktas career, Jeremain Lens had a chance to prove himself when Besiktas played Akhisar Belediyespor on Friday night.

However, the Sunderland loanee was again anonymous and manager Senol Gunes took the decision to substitute the Dutchman at half time.

A Spor claim the Besiktas board are regretting signing the attacker from Sunderland in the last window, and they’ve admitted they’ve made a huge mistake bringing in the player.

Lens has been unable to replicate the form he showed whist on loan with Fenerbahce last season, and looks a totally different player since his return to Istanbul. He’s struggled with his weight in recent weeks, and he’s been told to lose some pounds by the Beskitas medical staff.

A Spor say Besiktas could already be looking for a way to send Lens back to Sunderland after just a few months with the Turkish champions, and it’s likely they will need to sit down soon with the English club to discuss this.

A shock return to Sunderland may also depend on Chris Coleman, after the former Wales boss was named the Championship side’s new manager.
