Sunderland are in the race to sign Tornio goalkeeper Daniele Padelli, according to claims in the Italian media. Padelli is expected to leave the Serie A before Wednesday’s deadline if Manchester City’s Joe Hart joins the club on loan for the season.
First choice stopper Vito Mannone recently suffered a fracture to his elbow which will rule him out in the coming months, and even though youngster Jordan Pickford performed well at the weekend his mistake cost Sunderland all three points against Southampton. However, Sunderland will face competition from Serie A sides Atalanta and Fiorentina if Padelli is forced out of Torino.
Hart is expected to complete his move to Torino in the coming hours after reports he’s set for a medical in Italy. The England international is surplus to requirements at Manchester City following the arrival of Barcelona’s Claudio Bravo, and the 29-year-old was also linked with a move to Sunderland.
Padelli has experience of English football with Liverpool, although it was restricted mainly to off the pitch experience. Rafa Benitez loaned the then 21 year old from Sampdoria in 2007, with an option to make the move permanent, but things didn’t go well and he returned to Italy at the end of the season.
