On Tuesday, The Mirror ran a story saying Everton ‘could’ be making an attempt to sign Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro.

There wasn’t much conviction in the article, but it was claimed the Toffees ‘could’ sign the striker in January and finally get a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who left for Manchester United in the summer.

Several outlets covered the story, including The Sun, who didn’t have much to add, but enlarged the reach of the rumour.

And the speculation continued gaining pace, this time in Spain, where outlet Sport covered it crediting The Sun, and not The Mirror.

They also backed up the claims saying the move to Everton is a real possibility because Gameiro has been losing protagonism in the Atletico Madrid squad.

They recall the Frenchman has been recently benched by Angel Correa, and since he hasn’t even been called up for the last Champions League fixture, there’s a big chance he could be walking soon. Especially with Diego Costa’s arrival in January.

So even though the story started full of ‘coulds’, it’s a move that makes sense in Spain. True or not, the striker, who has only 27 minutes played this season, could be a doable signing for Everton.
