Earlier on Monday, we covered a report from Bild which revealed Mario Gotze had missed Eintracht Frankfurt training this morning, and with it being the last session before the Champions League match against Tottenham, his availability was obviously in question.

Gotze had picked up an ankle injury against Union Berlin at the weekend, a match which he scored in. He’d been seen with ice strapped around his ankle, but the messages being sent out by the Bundesliga club were positive and it was thought he could play against Spurs.

That has now changed, with it being admitted Gotze won’t be lining up against Antonio Conte’s men this week, a big disappointment for both the player and his club.

Bild quote Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner as saying: “Mario will be out, he still has too much pain in his ankle. He can’t be at 100 percent.”

The German newspaper explain Gotze had been in good form recently, so will be a big loss for Glasner’s side. It’s a boost for Tottenham’s chances as they look to pick up three points.
