Rio Ferdinand may well have a lot to answer for. The defensive legend sent a social media message to Patrice Evra this week asking about a return to Manchester United. That act by Ferdinand saw the rumours go through the roof in Italy, with it being being assumed there must be something in it.
It’s claimed that if Evra ended up back at Old Trafford then next season he could have a role with Jose Mourinho’s staff at the club, something which Gazzetta feel could appeal to the left back.
This is all very romantic, but Evra isn’t the defender he once was, and the Premier League is a harder test on advancing years than playing for Juventus in Serie A, something he’s been doing less as Alex Sandro takes over.
Maybe it could all be part of Jose Mourinho’s overt plan to prove to Manchester United fans that he ‘gets’ the club.
