Romelu Lukaku has opened a can of worms with his idea of an All Star match between the north and south of the Premier League.

There’s already been countless arguments on social media about which players should and would get the nod, and now Marca have got involved.

Launching a poll, Marca have asked their readers to select players for each positions for a north and south team. The positions are a little off, and some of the options strange, but there’s clearly appreciation for Manchester City.

However, Pep Guardiola’s men don’t get their way with the first choice, with 97% (at the time of writing) going for David de Gea over Ederson.

This could be seen as Spanish bias but only 5% of readers voted Juan Mata instead of Kevin De Bruyne.

The North All Star team for Marca readers, as it stands, is:

David De Gea, Kyle Walker, Nicolas Otamendi, Virgil van Dijk, Benjamin Mendy, Paul Pogba (as a ‘defensive pivot’, he won’t be happy), Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Mo Salah, Alexi Sanchez and Sergio Aguero.

The manager chosen is Pep Guardiola (60%), ahead of Jurgen Klopp (25%) and Jose Mourinho (15%). Six Manchester City players and their manager, then.

The South Team is Thibaut Courtois, Hector Bellerin, Cesar Azpilicueta (as a central defender), Toby Alderweireld, Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Willian (who is beating Ozil 65-35%), Eden Hazard and Harry Kane.

Mauricio Pochettino got the nod as manager.

70% of those taking part in the poll believed the North All Stars would win.
