Valencia were forced to look for strikers during the summer transfer window after they let Alvaro Negredo sign for Middlesbrough on loan,w ith a view to a permanent deal, and Paco Alcacer left for Barcelona.
Valencia’s director of sport Garcia Pitarch was in London in August, but rumours at the time suggested he was there to negotiate deals for Skhodran Mustafi and Aymen Abdennour.
However, according to a latest report on Spanish website Super Deporte, Pitrach was also in London to work on a deal for Belgian international Christian Benteke, who signed for Crystal Palace from Liverpool.
It’s reported Valencia saw an opportunity to sign Benteke, as Liverpool declared him transferable, but in the end the price tag was way too much for the Spanish side.
Benteke signed for Crystal Palace in a €32.5m deal excluding add-ons (depending on who you believe for the price), and Liverpool recouped most of the money they paid for him a year ago.
