Although not quite at the level of Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann, Maxi Gomez is causing all sorts of trouble in Spain right now.

The Celta Vigo striker is hot property, with several clubs linked to him but West Ham and Valencia particularly keen.

For the best part of the last month, the striker has been flitting between the two clubs, with one day it looking like he was off to Valencia and the next suggesting London is his next destination.

The most recent rumours suggested that the Hammers had won the battle for his signature, with his agents pushing for him to choose them over Valencia and today we covered a report from Faro de Vigo which stated West Ham officials are ‘desperately’ trying to finalise the move.

And it seems that they may get their wish. If the latest reports from Spain are to be believed, Valencia are turning their attention elsewhere.

Las Provincias reports that Valencia are ‘tired’ with the whole saga with their president, ‘hinting that if the Uruguayan knocks down the agreement the club has more options.’ Indeed, it was something he explicitly talked about while presenting Jasper Cillessen.

SuperDeporte back that up and say Valencia have given an ultimatum to Gomez and his team. They’ve had an agreement in place with Celta since last week and now want an end to the whole affair. They report that Borja Iglesias and Willian Jose are seen as alternatives to the striker.

The fact that the president is even discussing alternatives could suggest Gomez is on his way to West Ham.

Only yesterday he was asking for patience and while he’s reiterated that, this new stance shows that even he seems to think it’s time to move on.

That will come as music to the ears of West Ham, who, like Valencia, were probably getting tired of the holdup.
