Perhaps the longer it went on the more inevitable it became, but Aitor Karanka has now been linked with the Real Madrid job.

The Nottingham Forest manager was assistant at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho, with the now Manchester United boss often pushing him forward to do press conferences.

Mourinho fell out with the Spanish media more than once and when he didn’t want to speak it was Karanka who the responsibility fell to.

Mundo Deportivo go with a headline saying: ‘Karanka, latest candidate for the bench of Real Madrid’

It’s stated he’s been added to the long list of potential replacements for Zinedine Zidane, with the information coming via journalist Juan Gato.

Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp and Joachim Low were the initial frontrunners, but it’s thought almost impossible to get either Tottenham or Liverpool to agree, and the Germany manager has already ruled himself out of the running.

There doesn’t appear to be anything concrete in this yet, and therefore there needn’t be any serious worry at Nottingham Forest.
