If you thought Cesc Fabregas was having a bad season at Chelsea so far, his international career isn’t going much better either.
The central midfielder is yet to be called up to one of Julen Lopetegui’s squads, who took over from Vicente Del Bosque after the Euros, and most would point to his lack of game time at club level as the reason.
According to the Barcelona based website, the reason why the former Arsenal midfielder isn’t getting picked is because players from within the Spain squad advised the national team manager not to pick him anymore.
The website reports Lopetegui, following his appointment, held a meeting with some of the veteran players who had been recently called up for various reasons.
Some, like Casillas, were told they would not be of service anymore, while others were given a confidence vote.
However, a few were also brought in to have a chat about the attitude of other players in the squad, like Pedro and Fabregas.
The former of the two has been cast aside following his comments aimed at Del Bosque during the Euros, while, Diario Gol claim, Fabregas’s dismissal was due to Real Madrid players advising Lopetegui not to bring him into the squad anymore.
That is, at least, what the ‘Barcelona dressing room’ has been saying.
The main culprit is apparently Sergio Ramos, who knows Cesc has lost some of his abilities, and his main reason for asking his manager to leave him out is because when the Chelsea midfielder is around, Gerard Piqué is even more ‘untameable’, something Real Madrid players don’t particularly like.
A Barcelona based website blaming a Real Madrid player for the mistreatment of a former Barcelona player… Hmm…
