Saturday’s edition of Marca has a piece on Arsene Wenger and his long Arsenal career, and the feeling that it’s coming to an end.

This has happened pretty much every year for the past several, the European press look at Arsenal, assume it’s time for a change, and write about what a long time Wenger has been there and what a mixed bag of success the Frenchman has enjoyed.

Of course, usually it’s pointless as Wenger carries for longer, but each year it feels the exit is getting closer.

Marca throw Mikel Arteta into the ring, believing the 35 year old could be just the man to replace Wenger. It helps that he’s Spanish, but Marca believe there are two distinct reasons Arteta could follow Wenger into the Arsenal hot-seat.

Firstly, they believe Arteta is an ‘idol’ at Arsenal, so would immediately have the fans on his side, which can sometimes seem like half the battle.

Secondly, Arteta has ‘Wenger DNA’ believe Marca, ensuring the general style and ethos of Arsenal wouldn’t change too much.

It’s a long shot.
