Interested in Moussa Djenepo, for whom talks are underway, if Standard Liege’s manager is to be believed, Southampton might be keeping an eye on an alternative, just in case.

According to DH in Belgium, the Saints, accompanied by Arsenal, sent a scout to watch Waasland-Beveren travel to Royal Excel Mouscron, with the game ending 4-2 for the visitors.

The outlet try their best to pick out some potential targets for Southampton and the Gunners, and while the pickings weren’t great, with most of the talent out there on loan (including Liverpool’s Taiwo Awoniyi), they did settle on Waasland’s Nana Ampomah.

The 23-year-old scored his team’s fourth goal in the dying minutes from a clinical counter-attack after recently coming back from injury.

Scoring seven goals and picking up six assists from 22 appearances (totalling 1764 minutes), Ampomah had a very similar output to Djenepo (seven goals and three assists in 1643 minutes) and could end up being a cheaper option if dealings with Standard Liège don’t go to plan.

As for Arsenal, their limited budget ahead of the upcoming window could force them to think outside the box when picking their targets, such as the Ghana international.
