Premier League side Everton are getting closer to signing River Plate youngster Santiago Sosa, according to reports from Argentina.

TyC Sports claim the player’s agent is travelling to England next week in order to close a deal with the Toffees.

Everton would be paying around $15m (£12m) for the midfielder, but since River Plate don’t own 100% of the player, they will be getting US$12m (£9.5m) of it.

Previous reports from TyC had claimed the Buenos Aires side were in need of money, and would be happy to sell Sosa. He was said to be protected by a €15m release clause at the time.

Everton’s chase for Sosa has been around the Argentine media for a while now.

Last week, One Football had also reported that his agent was about to fly to England. However, instead of claiming a done deal, they said an ‘offer was being prepared’.

So if TyC is to be believed, things moved quite fast, and a completed deal could be just around the corner.
