Steve Mandanda hasn’t played for Crystal Palace since bonfire night and it’s starting to cause further worries in France. Mandanda was one of the best players in Ligue 1 last season and performing so well that there were sporadic calls for him to replace Hugo Lloris as France goalkeeper.

Mandanda was an absolute hero for Marseille and enjoyed a season for them that Wayne Hennessey could only dream of. To put it frankly, Mandanda has proven he’s a class, or several, above Hennessey, but it’s the Welshman between Crystal Palace’s sticks at the moment.

Not all transfers work out and Mandanda to Palace is looking like it fits that category. Injury has hampered the Frenchman hugely and for French newspaper L’Equipe it’s something of a mystery what his current situation is.

A knee operation and then an infection caught during the process has seen Mandanda out. L’Equipe say the player’s situation ‘remains an unknown’ and so there’s Screen Shot 2017-03-13 at 10.19.01serious doubt over his place is Deschamps’ next squad.

There’s doubt over whether Mandanda is still struggling with injury or illness or if Sam Allardyce has instead decided that a goalkeeper who was simply excellent last season doesn’t deserve a place in Palace’s squad ahead of Hennessey and Julian Speroni.

The longer it all continues, the less likely a Crystal Palace stay is.
