Eric Bailly is currently out of action. The defender missed the end of Manchester United’s season and will also miss out on the Africa Cup of Nations due to a knee injury.

He picked up a medial knee ligament issue against Chelsea and doesn’t have a clear return date yet. That situation obviously impacts upon any potential transfer for the defender, with clubs likely to be hesitant about committing a large amount on a player returning from a knee issue.

Thursday’s edition of L’Equipe reports the player is an option for Lyon, something which has also been claimed in the past.

It’s explained how good the Ligue 1 side have been at transfers in recent years, and there’s pressure to continue the track.

Lyon have just brought in their former player Juninho as technical director and everything is currently waiting to see if old targets will still be wanted under the new regime.

Therefore, any Bailly interest from the Champions League club will have to wait a while. Should Lyon make a move then they’d surely want a deal which protects them against further injury issues, perhaps a loan with purchase option or a low fee with bonuses added.
