Two days ago, Sport stated Manchester City star İlkay Gündoğan and Barcelona still have disagreements over wages for him to seal a move to Camp Nou in the summer.

The midfielder’s deal expires in June and this saw the La Liga side make an approach for him. His ability to play across multiple positions and understanding Pep Guardiola’s system well makes him a ‘perfect fit’ for Xavi Hernández at the Camp Nou.

Saturday’s Mundo Deportivo states Guardiola cannot ‘imagine a Manchester City’ without the 32-year-old. This, coupled with his form this season, had cooled off his arrival at Barca.

It’s claimed the ‘negotiations have heated up again’ in recent days, to the point where his signing ‘could be a reality’ for the Blaugrana. That’s because the Germany international has agreed to lower his salary demands.

In addition to this, Barca are offering him a three-year deal while Manchester City’s offer is for 12 months, with an option to further extend it by a year.

Gündoğan wanted to land the last big contract of his career, which is impossible for him to achieve at Barcelona. However, the latter’s offer of a three-year deal pleases the player, who wants to settle down at one place after becoming a father recently.

His partner, Sara Arfaoui, has not fully adapted to life in Manchester. Therefore, a move to Barca not only attracts Gündoğan from a sporting perspective, but also ‘at a family level’.

The Manchester City player wants to know the Spanish giants’ financial situations well before committing to them. He doesn’t want to take any risks and want guarantees that Barca can register him.

Mundo’s report indicates Gündoğan’s time in England could come to an end and his exit could leave Guardiola disappointed.
