Bayer Leverkusen could turn to Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg this summer if Odilon Kossounou were to leave as their latest ‘significant sale’.

That’s according to Kicker, who say the Dutchman is seen as the ideal replacement for Kossounou should he depart.

The newspaper reports that ‘it is quite possible’ that Leverkusen will make another economically significant sale with Kossounou this summer.

If that were to happen then Liverpool’s Van den Berg is a ‘successor candidate’ and is seen as a player who ‘fits the concept well’ in several respects.

They explain that that Dutchman is fast, has a good build up game and developed well while on loan at Mainz last season. He’s also strong when it comes to tackling and has the ability to anticipate situations, making him a ‘good overall package’ for Leverkusen.

There is also a belief that he can act as a defensive leader and could be a key man in the centre of Leverkusen’s three-man defence, particularly if Jonathan Tah departs on a free transfer next summer.

Leverkusen’s scouts also believe he is a player with ‘clear development’ in front of him, something they also like.

That all makes the Liverpool man an attractive prospect if Kossounou were to depart, which is now a distinct possibility.
