Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Joey Pelupessy is keeping his options open amid interest from the Netherlands.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who say the 27-year-old ‘faces a new challenge’ after three years with the Owls.
The newspaper explains that a return to the Eredivisie ‘beckons’ for Pelupessy, who joined Sheffield Wednesday from Heracles Almelo in 2018.
He is out of contract with Wednesday next summer and, while they have indicated they would like to keep the player, who has been a regular this season, he ‘keeps his options open’.
That’s because he knows he is followed by FC Groningen, as well as other sides in the Eredivisie, while there is also interest elsewhere in Europe.
‘Several clubs’ from the Championship and Turkey have ‘already expressed their interest’ to his management team, meaning he has options if he decides to leave Hillsborough this summer.
Whether he wants to isn’t mentioned, but the fact he is keeping his options open can certainly be seen as a bad sign for Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of keeping him.
Much is likely to rest on whether the Owls are relegated this year, with them currently 23rd in the table and four points from safety with two games of the season remaining.
