Earlier on Tuesday, we covered an interview Robert Pirès gave to La Tercera in Chile about Alexis Sanchez’s future, and the bottom line was: “He doesn’t know… He just wants to play.”
The Chilean’s possible contract extension has been one of the dominating topics of conversation for Arsenal fans this transfer window, mostly because Arsène Wenger isn’t planning on bringing anyone in this January, and it’s starting to become a cause for concern.
Ending in June 2018, Sanchez’s current deal means he could be free to talk to clubs a year from now, a scenario Arsenal are desperate to avoid, especially with a few teams starting to circle around the player like vultures tracking a wounded animal, simply waiting for the opportune moment to make their move.
According to Corriere dello Sport, one of those teams is Inter Milan, who will be looking to make a statement in the summer, with Fiorentina’s Federico Bernardeschi top of the list.
However, and the Italian newspaper make this very clear, if Alexis Sanchez doesn’t renew his contract with Arsenal before the summer transfer window, Inter Milan will make a move for him.
Having already played in Serie A for three years at Udinese, the 28-year-old will know exactly what to expect from Italian football, and if he doesn’t renew at the Emirates, Arsenal will need to make a very important call.
Either they say yes to acceptable offers and cash in on their star while they still can, or they reject everything and force him to see out his contract, letting him go on a free the next summer.
Then again, there’s also every chance Sanchez has no desire to join Inter Milan, but you can expect a long list of other clubs to be interested when that time comes.
