Leeds United are currenlty leading the Championship table, level on points with second placed Burnely, and eight points ahead of third placed Sheffield United.

Earlier this week, the Clarets sealed a 2-1 win over the Blades, and with that both Burnley and Leeds were able to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds’ return to the top division will see Werder Bremen benefit financially according to Wednesday’s edition of Bild.

Towards the end of the summer 2023 window, the Whites signed Ilia Gruev from Werder Bremen on a permanent transfer.

The Bundesliga side had agreed to collect bonuses if Daniel Farke’s side were to secure a promotion. This has now been confirmed by Werder Bremer managing director, Clemens Fritz, during a chat with Bild.

“It is correct that we agreed on bonuses payments as part of the transfer,” he said.

According to the report, Leeds will now have to pay £1m to Werder Bremen as part of the agreement for the 24-year-old’s transfer.

The Bulgaria international picked up a knee injury in October and was on the sidelines for over 100 days. The defensive midfielder started most of the league games since regaining full fitness in January.
