It’s been a rather quiet summer for Vincent Janssen considering his first season at Tottenham didn’t exactly go to plan.
The Dutch striker, who was bought as Harry Kane’s backup by Spurs last summer, struggled to live up to his £19m price tag, scoring just two league goals in 27 appearances, albeit of which only seven were starts.
Still, you would have expected some kind of saga of a club trying to save him from his ‘nightmare’ at White Hart Lane/Wembley, but that hasn’t really been the case.
The only major club looking at the 23-year-old seemed to be Lazio back in April/May, but that disappeared pretty quickly.
Unfortunately for them, they haven’t been able to find anyone else, and Il Messaggero claim on Friday they’ve returned for the former AZ Alkmaar star.
Back then, Lazio wanted to apparently spend around €15m on the young forward.
We also said we thought it was just a name in the wind, as is often the case, and the disappearance of the rumour for almost two months corroborated that, yet the return of this story suggests there might have been something in it after all, especially since it comes from a different source.
The Rome-based local newspaper report Igli Tare has been trying on and off to get a deal for the Tottenham striker over the past few months, and the lack of options elsewhere has forced him to return, with a possible loan offer and a €14-15m purchase clause potentially enough to convince Spurs.
We still find that hard to believe, as Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino don’t exactly seem too keen on selling players this summer but we’ll have to wait and see.
