Scoring 22 goals in 33 league appearances this season, Ciro Immobile is the indisputable starter up front for Lazio these days.
Unfortunately for the Italian side, when it comes to backups for the 25-year-old, the players at their disposal are far from prolific, meaning that if Immobile was to get injured long-term, they’d be in a bit of trouble.
That’s where Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen comes in this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport, who refuse to let go of the idea that the Dutch forward could be an option for Lazio in the coming months, after linking him a few weeks ago.
Janssen hasn’t exactly justified his £19m fee when called upon by Mauricio Pochettino this season, and the Italian newspaper seem to think Spurs could be willing to part ways with him, as long as the fee isn’t too expensive.
Not exactly blessed with money, it’s also worth pointing out again the club are looking for a backup, meaning they don’t want to spend too much, and Diego Simeone’s son, Giovanni, is top of their list at €15m.
Janssen is the number one alternative, and while he would have more chances to prove himself in Italy, it seems unlikely that Tottenham will be happy with €15m or less for the 22-year-old just a year after signing him.
Our take on this? It’s Corriere throwing in a name for the sake of it, especially when neither of the local newspapers are reporting this.
Plus, on paper, Janssen is the ideal alternative to Harry Kane, and at 22, he still has plenty of time to adapt to the Premier League before Spurs need to consider getting rid.
