Napoli star Victor Osimhen has been linked to Newcastle United for most part of this year and the reports, at least in the Italian media, continue to crop up on a daily basis.

Earlier this week, Corriere del Mezzogiorno stated Magpies scouts watched the striker and his teammate, Fabián Ruiz, in action against AC Milan on March 6th.

The Tyneside club looking at the Nigeria international has been backed up by Sky Italia’s Francesco Modugno. He made these claims to Kiss Kiss Napoli’s Radio Goal, as relayed by Area Napoli.

“A senior Newcastle manager was at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Fuorigrotta for Napoli v Milan,” Modugno said.

“It is beyond doubt that strong players are looked after by the big clubs. The manager of the English team was at the stadium to closely observe a Napoli player. It is obvious that this can happen, but then to get him, the club will also have to be satisfied.

“The player who is paying attention is the one who is amazing everyone, the Nigerian centre forward of Napoli, Victor Osimhen.”

Osimhen has managed 15 goals and four assists from 25 games this season. Modugno believes the former Lille star still has room to further enhance his overall game.

“The attacker is doing really great things and it’s normal there is the interest of great teams ready to sink the shot and buy the players. Napoli will make all the necessary assessments. However, we are talking about a young champion who can still explode,” he added.

Meanwhile, Osimhen’s friend and Nigerian journalist, Oma Akatugba, talked about reports linking the Napoli attacker to Eddie Howe’s side.

“On the market, I prefer to always be cautious, this is dealt with by his agent Roberto Calenda,” Akatugba told CalcioNapoli24.

“I don’t know much about these rumours of transfers or offers of over 100 million. I can only say that many teams in Europe are interested in Victor. Newcastle? very rich new club and they will want to reshape the team by focusing on strong players.

“Osimhen is happy at Napoli; he wants to do well for the team and the city to win the Scudetto. He is not distracted by the market rumours. He is happy with the love shown by the fans and has also written it publicly on his social accounts.”
