At the start of this month, SportBild reported Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji has an ‘offer from Manchester United’.

The 26-year-old’s current deal runs down in 2023, and on Wednesday, Bild came out with a report and the updates will provide a boost to any Red Devils interest.

BVB chiefs Sebastian Kehl and Michael Zorc wanted to retain the Switzerland international at the club beyond his current contract.

To do that, they made an offer that includes a salary of €8m per year, which was rejected by the player. The German club made an improved proposal to the centre-back, but he ‘did not accept’ it.

Bild further explains ‘his interest in an extension at Dortmund has expired’ and he would prefer a switch to the Premier League, where Manchester United have ‘shown an interest’ to sign him.

As per the claims, the Old Trafford club are trying to lure Akanji with a ‘gigantic salary’ of €15m per year.

The Swiss defender’s decision to reject the latest renewal offer and Dortmund not wanting to let him enter the final year of the contract means his ‘farewell is approaching’. Bild add Dortmund are looking to collect a fee of €30m from Akanji’s sale in the summer.

Manchester United have ‘shown an interest’, but it’s not made clear whether they are ready to pay €30m to the German club to sign Akanji in the next window.
