Julen Lopetegui could give Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘favourable’ status in the developing race for Isco’s signature.

That’s according to Sport, who say the pair could reunite at Molineux as the midfielder looks to depart Sevilla next month.

They report that Lopetegui will ‘try to recruit’ his former player, who has managed at Real Madrid, Sevilla and with the Spanish national team.

Isco finds himself in an increasingly ‘irreconcilable’ situation at Sevilla following a falling out with director of football Monchi.

That has pushed him towards the exit and a move away in the January transfer window has not been ruled out by either him or the club.

The situation could lead to him reuniting with Lopetegui at Wolves, with the Spanish boss having been the player’s ‘main supporter’ throughout his career and the reason he joined Sevilla in the first place.

A ‘new chapter’ at Wolves could make sense for him, although they are not the only Premier League side ‘monitoring the situation’ as Arsenal and Tottenham have also ‘shown an interest’ in a deal.

Wolves could have an advantage over them, though, as Lopetegui’s relationship with the player and the chance for them to work together again creates a ‘scenario (that) seems favourable’ for them to get him ahead of the competition.
