David Alaba’s current deal with Bayern Munich runs out in June of next year.
On Monday, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer confirmed his side have withdrawn a renewal offer for the defender after his representative turned down the treble winners’ latest contract proposal.
Mundo Deportivo journalist Miguel Rico provides a short update on the Austria international and his chances of signing for Barcelona as a free agent next summer.
Regarding the 28-year-old, Rico states he is a ‘great’ left-back and a ‘good’ central defender. However, Alaba cannot join the Spanish giants ‘not even [for] free’ because it’s ‘impossible’ for them to meet his salary demands.
It’s claimed the two-time Champions League winner with Bayern is asking for a net salary of €8m per season and these figures, as of today, are ‘unpayable’ for the Catalan club. 
Barca finding it ‘impossible’ to meet Alaba’s requests could provide opportunities to the likes of City and other clubs.
