It seems we’re having the third straight transfer window where Reading have been linked to Sporting striker Pedro Mendes and the move doesn’t happen.

This chase reportedly started in January 2020, when stories in Portugal said the Royals were keen on the move, but the Lions didn’t want to let the player go.

Then when the 21-year-old was close on leaving to a loan in the summer, the Championship side were linked once again, but he ended up signing with Almeria.

As his spell at the Spanish club was cut short this month, we’ve seen Reading’s interest being reported for the third time, and newspaper Record brings the disappointing news once again today.

They write that Mendes is actually on his way to Portuguese side Nacional on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Once again, they recall that there were ‘other possibilities’ for his future, especially Reading, but that was ‘unsuccessful’.

We wonder if Reading were really ever interested, since they’d probably be better a option for a loan instead of Almeria or Nacional. Now as he’s back to Sporting at the end of the season, perhaps he’ll be linked to the Royals again next summer.
