Following Coventry City’s failure to get a place in the Premier League, several clubs have been turning their attention to Viktor Gyökeres.

The striker has been heavily linked to sides from the top flight, including Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and seems to be edging away from the Championship side this summer.

Now even Gyökeres himself speaks about it.

In an interview with Swedish outlet Expressen, he was very honest about the situation he finds himself in.

First quizzed about the chase that has been on for him, the striker left a message for Coventry City for when they start negotiating his sale.

“There are a number of clubs that are interested. I guess Coventry want what they want. I hope they can think about what I want, and what I feel, and not just about who pays the most.”

Express point out that Coventry City already told Gyökeres they’re ready to let him leave, as long as the interested clubs pay the fee requested by them. Now if the likes of Everton and Wolves feel like his price may be too high, it seems even the player himself agrees with that.

“I don’t have an exact grasp of that part, but we have talked a little about it. I could have gone last winter but chose to stay, and felt that they wanted to keep me for the whole season. I hope we can cooperate now that the season is over.

“You can ask the clubs if they feel it is too high. It’s up to them. I only have one year left on my contract, but considering that, that’s quite a lot.”

Featuring for Coventry City this season, Gyökeres had 22 goals and 12 assists in 50 appearances. Besides Everton and Wolves, he’s also been linked with a move to Sporting.
