Emerson Palmieri has been linked with a Chelsea exit for months.

The Italian media has published countless articles on the player potentially returning to Serie A, where he’d played for AS Roma before making the move to Stamford Bridge.

He was expected to finally leave the Blues this summer, having arrived in 2018, and in Italy there was a lot of confidence, and a general assumption, that he’d be going back there.

However, Lyon recently moved into the picture and it’s the French club which has managed to reach an agreement with Thomas Tuchel’s side.

L’Equipe report the Brazilian born player will arrive in Lyon on Thursday morning to complete his transfer to the Ligue 1 side. He’ll be loaned on a one season basis with no buying option, and Lyon will be paying a fee to Chelsea, the amount of which isn’t reported by the French newspaper.

According to the report, Lyon was ‘his preference from the start’, which would go against claims made elsewhere.

Medical tests are scheduled for today, and should those go smoothly then Emerson is expected to train with his new teammates tomorrow.
