Four days ago, we covered claims from Spain that Barcelona were hoping to sell Clément Lenglet to Tottenham Hotspur before they travelled for their pre-season tour to the US. That didn’t happen and the defender is currently training in America.
The Frenchman was on loan at the north London club last season and it’s been repeatedly stated they are keen to sign him again.
Saturday’s Sport explains that it’s ‘key’ for the Catalan club to transfer the 28-year-old to Tottenham, to lower their wage bill. This is needed to sign a right-back, and Real Valladolid’s Iván Fresneda is identified as a target.
Over at Mundo Deportivo, they say Ange Postecoglou’s side still have the former Sevilla man in their sights.
It’s also claimed Barca have ‘advanced more with Spurs’ than any other club over a deal for Lenglet.
Despite this, the newspaper states the Camp Nou side are not in a hurry because they believe there will be other clubs who could be willing to offer more than what Tottenham are proposing.
This may be a tactic from Barcelona to try and put pressure on Tottenham to meet their demands for Lenglet.
