Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha has backed Rúben Amorim to be a success at Manchester United, after working with him at Sporting Club de Portugal.
O Jogo cover comments from the Portuguese midfielder today after he was asked about his former manager.
Amorim was announced as the new Manchester United manager at the end of last week following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.
He is set to take charge during the next international break, bringing an end to a successful four-year stay in charge of Sporting.
He’s long been linked with a move to the Premier League thanks to the work he’s done at Sporting, where he has not only established them at the top of the Portuguese table but as Champions League regulars.
He’s also been key to making the club one of the leading sides in Europe when it comes to developing talent and players that they later sell on for huge profit.
Palhinha is one such player, having established himself as a star at Sporting under Amorim, making 87 appearances under him, before joining Fulham and then Bayern Munich this summer.
It means he is well placed to talk about the qualities the new Manchester United manager has and he’s confident he’ll be a success at Old Trafford.
“I had the opportunity to work with him [Rúben Amorim],” he said.
“I have a lot of affection and wish him the best in the future. It’s a big step for him and he deserves it. As his former player and friend, I wish him the greatest success.”
