If the arrival of Marc Cucurella made one thing clear at Chelsea, is that a left-back is leaving Stamford Bridge in the near future.

The likeliest to do so is Marcos Alonso, who is edging ever closer to a transfer to Barcelona.

That’s what Sport are reporting on Monday, who claim the Spaniard has reached an ‘agreement in principle for the next three seasons’ with the La Liga side over a transfer, but he still has to wait.

Following their recent setback in their attempts to register their new signings, the club are waiting before engaging in the talks with Chelsea themselves.

The outlet explain Barcelona ‘will not make the final move until the whole issue’ is clarified, leaving Alonso to wait, where he ‘will train tomorrow with the London team while waiting for his departure’.

This means any transfer for the defender ‘will not be official until next week’, after the Catalan club ‘reassured the agents that the operation will go ahead, although it will take a few days to close everything’.

Another reason is that Barcelona ‘need to seal five or six more exits to be able to continue signing’ as there are currently ‘no numbers available’ for Alonso and ‘space must be made’.

One thing appears certain, however, and that’s that the Chelsea left-back ‘is not going to back down like César Azpilicueta and is clear that his future lies at the Camp Nou’, hoping to be able to travel there ‘as soon as possible’.

Regarding the transfer, ‘they hope to reach an agreement for less than €10m’, but a ‘joint operation with Frenkie de Jong will not be carried out’, leaving that matter entirely separate.
